A teenage boy was discovered deceased only a few days following being wrongly blamed of stealing the ashes of a deceased baby during a burglary, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his body in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The investigation learned how his parent got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a statement presented to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the media, claiming her infant's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said property was never stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed stolen remains attracted social media responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his parent said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She explained that her son had been diagnosed with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views genuinely mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had failed to contacted the family by the time of his death.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the house because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he needed, but denied removing anything.

Digital Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being harassed digitally after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that a 19-year-old urged Kai to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She described him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "family is totally devastated".

He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The inquest heard from educational personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On 8 November, she "heard some boys discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang the family's family landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they never got that message.

Formal Conclusion

Lead coroner informed the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he said: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the medium of social media.

"On November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and after his interview he was released while inquiries proceeded."

The official determined: "Exists no evidence that the acts or failures of any organization caused or added to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted action it is impossible to determine his purpose."
