Unveiling an Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have encountered a variety of interesting creations from small studios. However, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game includes a character that is actually a dung attempting to navigate to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is simple: press a jump control. Throughout numerous levels, encounter boss fights and unlock a shop to buy customizations for your fecal avatar.

Plan your jumps with caution, since one wrong move requires starting over. Jump on air pockets to launch your character higher, cross fragile surfaces, and interact with triggers to open secret routes. Collect UN-KOINS and use them on challenging game content in which gameplay gets crazy.

Graphically, the demo features neon stages and an amazing background music. The simple visual style featuring morphing geometric shapes could recall players of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's tough to think of other games where you play as a dung character, video games often featured fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as plant food. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already earned notable awards, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is ready at present on Steam, with the final release set to launch on computers in the fall.
