Toto Wolff is in final negotiations to sell a portion of his ownership stake in the Mercedes F1 outfit.

The deal estimates the Mercedes team at £4.6 billion – an unprecedented figure for an F1 team – following McLaren was appraised at £3.5bn in a change of corporate structure in September.

Wolff, who owns one-third of the Mercedes F1 operation, would sell a shareholding in the region of five percent.

The 53-year-old will remain as team principal and CEO should the deal proceed.

Shareholder Breakdown

Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes-Benz and industrial group Ineos, who both hold one-third of the enterprise.

An official representative stated: "We will be making no comment on this. The governance of the team will remain unaltered, and all three partners are fully committed to continued achievements of the brand in F1."

Valuation Growth

This arrangement signifies a substantial rise in worth of Mercedes F1 after Ineos acquired its stake for £208m in 2022.

The rise reflects the growth in market values of Formula 1 outfits recently as a consequence of the growing popularity of the sport globally.

This was also seen in the box-office performance of the Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt, which debuted last summer and has grossed over $630 million (£458m) at cinemas worldwide.

The film represents the actor's top-grossing film and the most successful sports film ever released.

Present Standings

The Mercedes team are second in the team standings, trailing McLaren, with three Grands Prix remaining this season.

Mercedes' primary racer British driver George Russell has won two of the 21 races this year and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship behind McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen.

The team secured a unprecedented eight straight team titles and seven driver championships, six for Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, from 2014 to 2021.
