Brisbane hasn't been a place that offers the Three Lions badly required hope for the Ashes

In the wake of losing to Australia in the first Test, England must stir themselves ahead of visiting the famous Gabba, a ground where the English haven't triumphed since 1986

English cricketers have habitually been lambs to the slaughter at this challenging venue

Cook's Memorable Achievement

Throughout modern times of broken English hopes, hopes and athletes is a source of inspiration achieved by an exceptional player

This marks 15 years since the legendary Cook mastered the Gabba with a career-defining unbeaten 235, preserving the initial Test of 2010-11 establishing England's trajectory to their only Ashes series win on Australian soil over nearly four decades

Record-Breaking Performance

It commenced of Cook's triumphant circumnavigation of Australia; three hundreds totaling 766 runs

The legendary Hammond stands as the only Briton to score more runs in a series on Australian soil

The English triumphed 3-1, where each success by an innings

They have not won a Test victory there since that memorable series

Looking Back

"You forget the challenging periods, the nervousness and anxiety involved in that achievement," Cook recalls

"With pride I remember. I made an important impact in a series when England triumphed 3-1 in Australia where each victory came through innings wins"

Path to Success

His journey to down under success began 18 months earlier after the 2009 Ashes in the UK

Despite English victory, Cook averaged less than 25 managing only one innings over fifty

He sought improvement

"Cricket is a team game, individual contribution creates the sensation like you want to pull your weight," he explains

Technical Transformation

Just 48 hours following the victory celebrations, he returned practicing numerous bowls during training with Graham Gooch

The initial results were encouraging

Cook made three centuries on the 2009-10 winter tours to South Africa and Bangladesh

Crucial Turning Points

When Cook returned to home soil for that year's summer, Cook had a "stinker"

In eight innings against Bangladesh and Pakistan, his best performance was 29

Without runs after the second day's play in the third match against Pakistan at The Oval, Cook believed he was playing his last Test innings prior to selection

"I found myself in the hospitality area, attempting to discover the answer by drowning sorrows," he admits

Critical Moment

Cook's 110 guaranteed his seat for the Australian tour

The team maintained preparations through successful warm-ups of their warm-up games down under

As the opening match began at the Gabba, they encountered a Siddle hat-trick

Record-Breaking Stand

Shortly prior to the third day's close, Cook and Strauss began England's second batting effort needing to overcome 221 runs

They achieved 19 without loss at stumps then continued with an exhibition etched in Ashes folklore

"My memory doesn't retain the messages, our conversations," says Cook

The left-handers added 188 for the first wicket

The 235 without dismissal was the highest score by an Englishman in Australia since the 1930s

Total Command

England exploited an astonishing first morning in the second match at Adelaide

Following Anderson's additional wicket Michael Clarke, the hosts stood at 2-3 and couldn't recover

Cook followed up his Queensland achievement by scoring 148 in a famous match featuring Pietersen's destruction of the Australian bowling

The Final Triumph

The English might have secured the Ashes in Perth, only for Mitchell Johnson to indicate the trouble he would cause four years later

What followed was arguably England's best performance in Ashes history in Australia

In Melbourne, the enormous ground of sports down under, during Boxing Day, the home side were dismissed for 98

"For ideal Boxing Days, it was that. There was disbelief at the end of the day," Cook remembers

Ultimate Success

Fuelled by the focus to claim victory, Cook was at it again at the Sydney Cricket Ground

His score of 189 lifted England to 644, their best score in a Test in Australia

The uncertainty wasn't if England would win the game and series, rather when

"The environment was electric," Cook remembers

"When Tremlett got the final batsman to win the match, it was a moment of absolute joy"

Historical Significance

The batsman received top accolades

The subsequent seven years of his Test career were illuminated by additional achievements

Following his international retirement, he received a knighthood for cricket contributions
