The musician Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has announced he will be absent from a segment of his band’s reunion tour as he undergoes treatment for a prostate cancer diagnosis.
Arthurs, 60, a founding member of the band, confirmed he will not be performing at the upcoming shows in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney.
The Seoul concert is set for 21 October, followed by Tokyo on 25-26 October, Melbourne on 31 October, 1 and 4 November, and Sydney on 7-8 November.
In a social media post, he disclosed that he was diagnosed prostate cancer at the start of the year and is reacting positively to therapy.
“Early this year I was found to have prostate cancer. The positive aspect is I’m responding really well to treatment, which enabled me to take part in this amazing tour.
“Now, I am having to take a scheduled pause for the next phase of my treatment, so I’ll be missing the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney. I’m really sad to be absent from these events but I’m doing well and will be back ready to go in time for the South American leg.”
This is not his first medical challenge. In 2022, Arthurs disclosed he had been found to have tonsil cancer.
At that time, he stated: “Just to let you all know I’m going to be pausing from performing for a while. I have been diagnosed with a tonsil cancer. But the good news is it’s manageable and I will be beginning a treatment plan soon.”
Arthurs played in the band The Rain with the frontman in the start of the 90s before they recruited the singer’s brother, Noel, who subsequently demanded they change their name.
He recorded three albums with the band, including the era-defining Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, before departing in 1999 during the production of the next record, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.
Arthurs subsequently became part of Liam Gallagher’s band for a period and has frequently played on stage with Liam during his solo career, including at the Reading and Leeds festivals in 2021.
He also formed the group Parlour Flames and worked as a broadcast presenter after his period in the group.
