Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session

Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.

Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.

Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.

Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.

The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.

The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.

The veteran wrapped up in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.

Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
