People have gathered across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
The assault resulted in more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the most deadliest day for the Jewish community since the World War II.
Israel reacted by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are regarded as trustworthy by the United Nations and other world agencies.
"The bloodthirsty opponents have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister remarked on that day.
He also promised to "realize all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will not pose a risk to Israel".
The government authorities rescheduled state remembrance events until 16 October - after the completion of the festive season - but events still were held around the country on Tuesday.
A remembrance service for the families of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was aired throughout Israeli TV networks.
Some time earlier, a minute's silence was held throughout the country.
Meanwhile, both sides' representatives convened in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of mediated discussions to discuss the terms of the proposal.
A high-ranking delegate knowledgeable about the discussions said that an late session of indirect talks commenced at evening in Egypt.
The source explained the day's discussions concluded without significant progress, due to conflicting views over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not restart hostilities after the opening period of the agreement.
He added that the talks are "difficult and have yet to produce any real breakthrough," but mentioned that facilitators are making efforts to close the disparities between the conflicting groups.
In Tel Aviv's memorial area previously, young Hagar - whose brother lived through the attack on the outdoor event, where 378 people were murdered and many more were captured by Hamas gunmen - shared: "Nowhere appears as home now and until each abducted person return not a single person will be secure."
"When we see everybody home returned, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she added.
In front of the prime minister's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people assembled to express their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel reports nearly fifty continue in confinement in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.
Activist Atalia Regev stated: "We must do whatever arrangement necessary for the abducted to be released. But we really want promises that we will be safe."
Research now regularly indicate that about seventy percent of Israelis want the war to finish in return for the release of the hostages.
At the location of the music event, mourners gathered to pay their respects.
From the site, the sound of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be noticed just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers said the heavy Israeli shelling continued.
In Gaza City, air and artillery strikes were reported in the early hours of that day in the west side neighborhood, sector and Nasr neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwestern area.
"Once the evening comes, the anxiety appears with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing last year, described.
"We are afraid of the attacks. During nighttime we are resting together, holding each other, particularly my smallest child who puts his face on me all night."
"Constantly we check the reports to see the situation. And I'm worried that this halt will not be completed and that the conflict will resume to us."
The medical facility in Gaza City said it had received the corpses of several people by the daytime, including several killed in an Israeli bombing in the south part area.
Nasser hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis reported additional fatalities had been delivered. One of them was killed by Israeli troops while seeking assistance to the southern area, medical staff reported.
