A charity drive is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to provide aid to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
The song was recorded following a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the scene. All participated in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Lullaby was crafted by a group of music creators. The track blends a mix of the heritage language with freshly written English words.
The group managing the project have clarified that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be distributed to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative explained. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of property described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions won't make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is primarily raising awareness for this issue and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
